Start

9:00 – SPAR Budapest Marathon (42 km) & Budapest Marathon Relay for 2 and 4 in waves to lessen overcrowding and overtaking after the start.

Wheelchair and handbike racers can start ahead of the field but they have to consult with the race organizers in advance about passing the lead car.

Starting Zones

You must start from the starting zone indicated by a sticker on your bib number. It was allocated by the planned pace you indicated at registration. Zones will open approximately 25 minutes before the start and close 5 minutes before. Afterwards, you may stand and start from the back of the field.

  • 1st zone: pace under 4:30 min/km
    • Marathon finish time under 3 h 10 min
  • 2nd zone: pace between 4:30 and 5:00 min/km
    • Marathon finish time between 3 h 10 min and 3 h 30 min
  • 3rd zone: pace between 5:00 and 5:30 min/km
    • Marathon finish time between 3 h 30 min and 3 h 52 min
  • 4th zone: pace between 5:30 and 6:00 min/km
    • Marathon finish time between 3 h 52 min and 4 h 13 min
  • 5th zone: pace between 6:00 and 6:30 min/km (and over for 10 km runners)
    • Marathon finish time between 4 h 13 min and 4 h 34 min
  • 6th zone: pace over 6:30 min/km
    • Marathon finish time over 4 h 34 min

If you would like to change your zone please ask for a new sticker at the Race Center or at the Information Tent.

Real Nature 30 km

The start of the Real Nature 30 km will be at a different location: at 12.195 meters on the marathon course.
Location:  on the lower Danube embankment of Pest a bit north of Erzsébet híd.

Attention! There will be no shuttle services to transport runners to the start.

There will be no mass start, runners start individually according to their goal finish time from 9:40  until 10:15.
This way each runner joins the marathon field when marathon runners run a similar pace as them.

How to get there (recommended):

  • Walk to ‘Petőfi-híd budai hídfô’,
  • then take tram 6 or 4 to ‘Blaha Lujza tér’.
  • Then take any bus in the direction of Buda (5, 7, 8E, 133E, 108E) to ‘Ferenciek tere’,
  • then walk to the lower Danube embankment of Pest at the ‘Erzsébet-híd’

Budapest Marathon & Budapest Marathon Relay for 2 and 4

The course runs through the heart of Budapest, crosses several bridges and passes the most well-known sites of the city.

Real Nature 30 km

The course will start at the 12.195th meter of the marathon course and follow the same route to the finish.

Race center & bib pick-up

Race centre

In tents between the ELTE Lágymányosi Campus – déli tömb (Pázmány Péter sétány 1a, Budapest 1117) and BME (Budapest University of Technology and Economics) buildings.

Opening times:
  • October 4, Thursday: between 12:00 and 18:00
  • October 5, Friday: between 9:00 and 18:00
  • October 6, Saturday: between 8:00 and 18:00
  • October 7, Sunday: between 7:00 and 8:30

Bib Pick-up

In the race centre starting on Thursday until 30 minutes before the start.

You must have your registration confirmation with you to pick up your bib, either printed or the e-mail on your phone. To collect the bib of another runner you must show his/her registration confirmation.

If you don’t have your registration confirmation, please go to the desk ’Replacing lost registration confirmation’ with your photo ID. Our colleague will issue a card for you, with which you can pick up your bib. We can only issue a card for you personally, not for another runner.

Participants running their first marathon are entitled to wear another bib on their back with „MY FIRST MARATHON” will be written on it.
If you indicated in the registry form that this would be your first marathon, you will get this race number automatically when picking up your race number. If you didn’t indicate it when registering for the event, you can ask for it at the problem-solving table in the race centre.

Changing rooms, cloakrooms, toilets

Changing rooms

Facilities will be open before and after the race. Showers are also available on location for individual marathon and 30 km runners.
Additionally, there will be changing rooms at the start of 30 km and at the relay exchange stations.

At the start/finish area the women changing rooms will be in the ELTE Lágymányosi Campus South Building. Men can change in a tent next to the information tent.

Cloakroom

In tents at the start/finish area. Individual runners must use the baggage tag attached to their bibs, while relay runners will receive armbands.

Opening hours
  • Marathon and Relays:
    • drop-off between 7:00 and 8:30
    • pick-up between 11:30 and15:30
  • Real Nature 30 km: bags handed in at the start will be transported to the cloakroom at the finish.
    • drop-off before 10:00
    • pick-up until 16:00

There will be no cloakroom at the relay exchange stations.
There will be a monitored bike rack at the site of the race.

Toilets

There will be portable toilets and urinals for men near the race centre, at the start/finish area, at each refreshment and relay exchange station.

Refreshment stations

There will be refreshment stations set up around ever 3-4 km along the way.

Next to water, they serve other drinks and snacks to help your run, such as iso-drinks, banana, and glucose.

Individual Refreshments

You may send your own refreshment to any refreshment station. Please mark it with your bib number clearly.
Drop-off: Sunday morning before 8:15 at the race center
Find your refreshment at the table marked ‘Egyéni frissítő/Individual refreshment’ at the station you sent it to.

Relay Exchange

SPAR Marathon Relay for 2 

At the relay exchange station, you have to hand over the relay bib (the one with the chip tag) to the next runner in the designated zone.

Location: on the lower Danube Embankment of Buda to the left of the ‘Halász utcai’ exit at 21.4 km, on the left-hand side of the road

How to get there (recommended):

  • From the race centre walk to the Buda’s head of Petôfi Bridge,
  • then take tram 6 or 4 to Blaha Lujza tér.
  • From there you can take metro line M2 to Batthyány tér,
  • then walk to Halász utca and down to the Danube Embankment

Tolle UHT Marathon Relay for 4

At the relay exchange station, you have to hand over the relay bib (the one with the chip tag) to the next runner in the designated zone.

1st Relay Exchange Station

Location: on ‘Attila út’ shortly after ‘Alagút utca’ at 9 km, on the right-hand side of the road

How to get there (recommended):

  • From the race centre walk to the Buda’s head of Petôfi Bridge,
  • then take tram 6 to Móricz Zsigmond körtér, or take tram 4 to Újbuda központ.
  • Then take tram 56 to Krisztina tér,
  • then walk to the relay exchange station (Attila út)
2nd Relay Exchange Station

Location: on the lower Danube Embankment of Buda to the left of the ‘Halász utcai’ exit at 21.4 km, on the left-hand side of the road

How to get there (recommended):

  • From the race centre walk to the Buda’s head of Petôfi Bridge,
  • then take tram 6 or 4 to Blaha Lujza tér.
  • From there you can take metro line M2 to Batthyány tér,
  • then walk to Halász utca and down to the Danube Embankment
3rd Relay Exchange Station

Location: on the ‘Fő tér’ of Óbuda at 30 km, on the left-hand side of the road

How to get there (recommended):

  • From the race centre walk to Rákóczi bridge,
  • then take tram 1 to the Buda’s head of Árpád Bridge,
  • from there you can walk to Fô tér.

(Attention! The tram’s journey time is about 50 minutes!)

Rules of Relay Exchange

  • Do not remove or injure the chip on the back of the team bib
  • Make sure you use your own team’s bib
  • Please leave the measuring areas as soon as possible

Pace runners

If you think you won’t be able to run at a predetermined speed, several pace runners aiming for different goal times and paces can help you realize your goals.
We choose all of our pace runners very carefully, all of them are experienced runners and they are able to surpass their own interests and do everything for the runners who are following them and trust them. They think instead of the runners, check the time regularly and encourage others.
You will be able to recognize them easily as you will see their flags (with their goal
race pace and goal finish time) attached to their backs from a great distance.

On-site: If the limit has not been reached registration is also possible on-site at the race centre.
There is no on-site registration for wheelchair and handbike racers!

Time limit

Budapest Marathon & Marathon Relay for 2 and 4

5 hours 30 minutes net time
A sweep bus follows the runners in the speed of the 5:30 pace runner pair. If you are passed by the sweep bus, you have to get on the bus, your race number will be crossed and you are not allowed to enter the finish area.

30 km

According to the time limit of the marathon: the last runner must finish 5 hours and 30 minutes after the marathon start.

Budapest Marathon

By race day, registrants for this event must be 18 or older (born before October 7, 2000).

Budapest Marathon Relay for 2

By race day, registrants for this event must be 12 or older (born before October 7, 2006).

30 km

By race day, registrants for this event must be 16 or older (born before October 7, 2002).

Barilla Pasta Party – the N°1 pasta in Italy!

All participants are invited to take part in the Barilla Pasta Party on Saturday!
The pasta party is included in the registration fee of the SPAR Budapest Marathon and Real Nature 30 km, while others can purchase their ticket on site.

Date: 8th October, from 11:00 until 17:00
Location: in the tent set up next to the race centre
Ticket price: 1500 Ft or 5 EUR (subject to availability)

The ticket includes:
  • one portion of pasta
  • one drink (Erdinger beer or Primavera still mineral water)
  • one bar of chocolate
You can choose from the following pastas (while stocks last):
  • Fusilli pasta with Basilico sauce
    • Ingredients of Basilico sauce: tomato pulp, tomato concentrate, onion, sunflower seed oil, basil, sugar, salt, natural flavouring
  • Bavette pasta with Pesto Genovese sauce
    • Ingredients of Pesto Genovese sauce: sunflower seed oil, basil, cashews, grana padano, whey powder, salt, pecorino romano, sugar, extra virgin olive oil, basil extract, natural flavourings (milk), garlic, buttermilk powder, acidity regulator: lactic acid

Ticket pick-up:

Tickets must be picked up in person on Saturday starting from 10:30 in the tent next to the pasta party.

  • Participants of the SPAR Budapest Marathon and Real Nature 30 km can pick-up their free ticket by presenting their bib numbers
  • Ticket purchase is possible at the same tent (subject to availability)

Only 2500 tickets are available. Come early to make sure you do not miss out!

Time measurement

The event is timed by AGNI-Timing.
The UHF chip will be located at the back of your bib number.
Consequently, it is essential that you wear your own bib correctly: well visibly on your chest without folding it.
Failure to do so may result in a 10-minute time penalty.

Prizes

Budapest Marathon

Prizes will be issued to the top 6 male and female individuals.

Relay for 2 and 4

Prizes will be issued to the top 3 male, female, and mixed teams.

 30 km

Prizes will be issued to the top 3 male and female individuals.

Results

A list of results will be published online real time, the lists are being updated while runners are crossing the finish line.
Runners who do not have a time at one of the checkpoints along the course will not be given a rank.
Those who received a 10-minute penalty will be marked with an asterisk.

Medical assistance

During the race, medical services are available at the medical area beside the finish line.

If you see someone collapsing along the course please notify the race organizers posted at each kilometre sign or at the refreshment stations.

At the back of each bib, you can find the phone number of the medical team.

Fill in the emergency section on the back of your bib. Do not forget to mention if you have taken any medication before the race!


Additional information

  • Please wear your race number on the front and make sure that it is clearly visible at all times and don’t fold it! Make sure you put your race number on your T-shirt properly with the safety pins which can be found in your race packet and also on the registration tables. Improper wear might result in a 10-minute time penalty.
  • Participation in the event is open to any properly trained runner or wheelchair racer who has agreed to the standard terms and conditions.
  • When you use earphones, you are unable to hear noises from outside, so you might obstruct a runner who is trying to pass you or race marshals or members of the medical team. It is NOT PERMITTED to listen to MP3 players or any other devices plugged into both ears. Anyone breaking the rules can get a 10-minute time penalty.
  • Among the runners, there will be race organizers on bikes and motorbikes, and also ambulances if needed.
  • Participants are not permitted to roller-skate, bike, run without a race number, or run with a dog. Those attempting to run accompanied by someone on a bicycle or on roller-skates can be disqualified.
  • Any commercial or promotional activity should be permitted by BSI in advance, in a manner determined by BSI.
  • BSI reserves the right to limit the number of participants and close registration at any time.
  • BSI reserves the right to change the route, the program and the date of the event.
