The first runners of the relay teams will start together with the individual marathon runners. They should position themselves in the designated start zone according to their planned pace. Before the start, everyone should stand in the start zone that corresponds to their planned pace (minutes per kilometer) in order to avoid disturbing other runners.
- Zone 1: Under 4:30 (Within 3:10:00 marathon time) (Marked with ‘1’ on the bib, before the number)
- Zone 2: 4:30-5:00 (Within 3:10:00 – 3:30:00 marathon time) (Marked with ‘2’ on the bib, before the number)
- Zone 3: 5:00-5:30 (Within 3:30:00 – 3:52:00 marathon time) (Marked with ‘3’ on the bib, before the number)
- Zone 4: 5:30-6:00 (Within 3:52:00 – 4:13:00 marathon time) (Marked with ‘4’ on the bib, before the number)
- Zone 5: 6:00-6:30 (Within 4:13:00 – 4:34:00 marathon time) (Marked with ‘5’ on the bib, before the number)
- Zone 6: Over 6:30 (Over 4:34:00 marathon time) (Marked with ‘6’ on the bib, before the number)
The zone designations are the same for individual marathon runners, 4-person relay teams, and marathon pairs. When specifying the planned pace for relay teams, only the pace of the first team member running matters.
Everyone can only enter the designated start zone that corresponds to their planned pace. This is to reduce the chaos during the first kilometers after the start and unnecessary overtaking. If runners of the same pace are in the same zone, the beginning of the race will be more peaceful and predictable. The label on the bib indicates the designated start zone, and it is checked when entering the zone. The number on the label corresponds to the zone number. For relay teams, the zone sticker will be on the team bib.
Without a zone sticker, you can only enter the last start zone. Those who didn’t specify a planned pace can request a zone sticker at the race center before the start.
Always position yourself at the end of the time zone marker flag, which means standing towards the start from the entry gate.
After entering the zone, move toward the start line so that participants coming after you can also enter the zone.
The entry gates to the start zones will open 20 minutes before the start and will close 5 minutes before the start. After that, you can only enter the last start zone.
If you encounter a runner with the wrong zone sticker in your zone, kindly ask them to choose a zone that matches their estimated finish time to avoid confusion and potential accidents.
Staggered Start at the 38th SPAR Budapest Marathon® Festival:
For the marathon relay participants, we have staggered starts in multiple waves, alongside the individual marathon runners. Each wave starts within a 3-minute interval.
At the front of each wave, organizers will be present to guide the participants toward the starting line.
Once at the starting line, we will initiate the start approximately 1.5 minutes later, and we will follow the same procedure for participants starting in subsequent waves.
Please note that the entry gates between the waves will not reopen!
Any equipment left in the start zone will be collected immediately after the start and donated to the Hungarian Red Cross for charity.
